For the first 25 days in December, the Indians will highlight one community partner
organization and how you can give back this holiday season.
For 25 years the doors of Horizon House’s have been open to our homeless neighbors in Indianapolis. Originally founded as a place for people who had nowhere else to go during the day time hours, Horizon House has become one of the most comprehensive day centers in the nation. Their unique model is built upon the foundation of empowerment; providing “a hand up, not a hand out”. They provide services in an atmosphere of dignity and respect, with the belief that everyone has the ability to contribute to society.
By providing a full array of services ranging from showers and laundry to an employment program, medical and mental health facilities, Horizon House works to meet people where they are. With an average of 3,000 people coming through their doors every year, their programs have been shown to help save local tax dollars by keeping our homeless neighbors out of the emergency medical system and criminal justice system while helping them work toward self-sufficiency.
Horizon House is celebrating their 25th Anniversary in 2013. Their annual fundraiser is Tackling Homelessness, held every fall at the Indianapolis Colts’ training facility on West 56th Street.
