For the first 25 days in December, the Indians will highlight one community partner
organization and how you can give back this holiday season.
Indy Reads is a not-for-profit organization that relies on volunteers to provide basic literacy tutoring to illiterate and semi-literate adults. We believe that everyone should have an opportunity to learn to read, and our goal is to make Indianapolis 100% literate. Our programs include one-on-one tutoring, small group sessions, English as a Second Language instruction, and “Literacy Labs” at neighborhood centers.
This summer, we opened a community bookstore at 911 Mass Ave, Indy Reads Books. It features gently used books, new books, volunteer labor, and several arts and cultural events each week. We are recruiting volunteers to serve at Indy Reads Books for 2013. Have you always wanted to work in a bookstore? Does alphabetizing the fiction section sound relaxing? Are you looking for a service project for a group of students? We need volunteers for a wide variety of activities: sorting and moving books, providing customer service, and much more! Sign up for a volunteer orientation or call our office at 275-4040.

If you’d like to donate your gently used books, just drop by the store during normal business hours. Recent best-selling titles and children’s books are especially welcome. We are also really interested in acquiring a movie projection screen and a movie projector. (hint, hint!)
