Justin Wilson, LHP
Ranking within Pirates organization:
MLB.com: No. 10
Baseball America: No. 17
Indianapolis (Triple-A): 10-8, 4.13 ERA, 30 G, 21 GS, 3 SV, 124.1 IP, 67 BB, 94 K
In 2011, Justin Wilson was named the Tribe’s Most Valuable Starting Pitcher, after picking up a team-high ten wins. His 94 total strikeouts also finished tied for third on the Indians staff.
From May 12 to June 12, he recorded a 6-0 record in seven starts, becoming the International League’s first eight-game winner. After moving to the bullpen late in the season, Wilson showed great potential while picking up three saves.
As a starter, Wilson has pitched his way to two championships in the past four years: a College World Series title in 2008 for heavy underdog Fresno State and a 2010 Eastern League championship with Double-A Altoona. Some scouts still think Wilson could be a serviceable starter, leaving the Pirates faced with a question coming out of spring training: is Justin Wilson a starter or a reliever?
