Day 7: Humane Society of Indianapolis

Family is Furever. Help Indy’s Homeless animals find forever families by donating to the Humane Society of Indianapolis at

Every day IndyHumane has dozens of animals brought to our door. Some of these animals are surrendered by their owners who cannot care for them. Others are stray or abandoned animals that a kind soul picked up in an effort to save a life. We take in as many of these animals as we can but the need in our city is great and our financial resources are limited.

IndyHumane always operates at capacity for our budget. We take in as many animals as we can financially care for. More funds mean more animals are taken in. More animals taken, in mean more lives saved and more happy families created.

We are a private, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization and we receive no public or private government funding. The Humane Society of Indianapolis is Indy-based and independent, and we are supported solely by contributions, grants, bequests, investments, and adoption and service fees.

The Humane Society of Indianapolis is the leading voice for the welfare of animals and improving their quality of life. We do not put animals down for space or time and are the first choice in providing direct services for shelter cats and dogs, including adoption, foster home placement, behavior training, appropriate medical care, and low-cost vaccine services. As the voice for the animals, IndyHumane brings together like-minded animal-focused individuals and groups to educate the public about animal welfare issues and concerns.

You can learn more about all of the services we offer and see the current adoptable animals by visiting

For over 100 years, it’s all about the animals.

  1. Back in 2003 I visited and after an hour or so and meeting a number of dogs I found ELI. Wow what a find, a wonderful German Shepard/Alaskan Malmut mix of about 2 years old at the time. The past 8 years have been great, Eli is a wonderful dog, never misbahaves, always there when I get home and a wonderful watcher of the house while I am away.
